10 Simple Hacks To Make Laundry Day A Breeze..

Hi Honeys
I thought today I'd post about my favourite homemaking chore.  Although it certainly never feels like a chore... OK, it's my first homemaking... smile every day πŸ˜„

Have you guessed what it is yet? Can you guess what I do every morning that starts my day with the biggest smile?  Who yelled "laundry!" just then?  πŸ˜„

I was told once that I had an "unnatural obsession with laundry" my reply was "you say that like it's a bad thing..." πŸ˜„

Everyone needs a hobby they love and can lose themselves in honeys, one of mine is laundry and I really do love every minute of it 😍

10 simple hacks to make laundry day a breeze..

I know what you're thinking, who even likes laundry. let alone loves it?  I've been responsible for my own laundry since I was in my mid teens.  Every Saturday I would wash my school uniforms and on a Sunday afternoon would iron and hang them neatly in my wardrobe.  Five hangers, each with a skirt and crisp, freshly ironed blouse would hang next to another hanger which was home to my blazer and two school ties.

Two more hangers would have my freshly laundered, and ironed, P.E kit.  Yellow cotton top, navy sport skirt and navy shorts.  I took such pride in making sure everything was clean and ready for the week ahead.

Today's post aims to share how I make laundry day (which for me is almost every day) such a breeze that it becomes a pleasure to do.  Why not grab a cuppa, and maybe a cookie, and meet me back here in a few minutes and I'll share all...

Welcome back dear ones, do you have your cuppa?  Cool, me too ☕🍩   Let's get started shall we?

10 Simple Hacks To Make Laundry Day A Breeze...

10 simple hacks to make laundry day a breeze...

1. Choose a laundry hamper to suit your needs.  If you have a family, and lots of laundry, why not save time by using a sectioned laundry hamper with separate sections for light & dark fabrics. You could also use a simple cotton drawstring bag for delicate items or dry cleaning.  A drawstring bag can also encourage younger family members to join in by making collecting their laundry a game.  Why not make a hoop for the top of the bag and hang it so that they can throw their laundry in?

2. Why not use a small jar or a pretty bowl to collect assorted things found in pockets before clothing goes into the washing machine.  No end of havoc can be caused when pockets aren't checked, coins can damage the inside of your washing machine and have you ever had to deal with the mess caused by paper tissues dissolved and in bits all over a load of laundry?

3. Keep your washing machine in tiptop condition with a little easy maintenance.
  • Clean the detergent drawer regularly to stop it from becoming congested or clogged.
  • Occasionally run the machine through a wash cycle while empty. Add a little vinegar or soda crystals (NOT both together!) and set the temperature to a hot (60c) wash.
  • Don't ever be tempted to over load your machine since the additional weight can damage the machine when it goes into a spin cycle and the clothes won't have space to agitate/move around to wash properly.
  • When the last wash cycle has been done, wipe down the inside of the machine with a microfibre cloth to prevent any possible build up of mildew.

4. Keep on top of it.  I wash every morning because...
  • I love it, honestly I do πŸ’– Yes, yes, I'm odd, I know πŸ˜„
  • It keeps my laundry basket manageable.  Even one load a day will stop overflowing piles in their tracks.

5.  Wash delicate items in a mesh bag or use a pillowcase.  This is also a great way to avoid losing socks too (where do those odd socks go?  How do they escape the confines of the washing machine?  Questions need to be asked.. What?  Oh yes, concentrate Rosie!)

I use a pillowcase when washing our furbaby Jade's soft toys. Always remember an extra rinse for furbaby things, especially blankets and jackets, anything that touches their skin honeys to make sure all traces of detergent is gone.  Furbabies can't tell us when their skin is irritated and can hurt themselves by scratching.

6. Always wash white fabrics on their own and, if you're lucky enough to have lots of lovely sunshine, line dry white natural fibre items such as cotton towels, because the sun will brighten them.

7. Wash bright colours inside out and use the coolest setting on your machine.  If hanging outside, hang in the shade to avoid fading.

8. Separate items by type as well as colour.  Towels and fleece items can "shed" and smooth fabrics will show every tiny piece of lint and fluff.

9. Remove laundry from the washing machine as soon as it finishes it's wash cycle and hang or pop into the dryer straight away.  I can't remember the last time I used our dryer honeys.  You might remember the pulley dryer Hubby fitted for me. This has been such a boon.  It holds two good loads of laundry easily and is my go to solution when, as is so often the case here, it's raining outside.

10. Complete the task.  Fold and put clothes away straight away honeys.  It only takes a few minutes and being able to put your hand on things when getting dressed in the morning makes a world of a difference to how you feel.

My very first organizing project was to sort Hubby's t shirt drawer and the same system is still in place.  Now if we can just get the rest of our home as organised as our laundry...

Are you a laundry fan honeys?  Do you have laundry tips? If so, please share? I'm always looking for new ways to do things.  Even if laundry isn't your favourite thing to do, maybe I can make you smile when you think of it?  Don't think so?  What about this...

That never-empty basket of laundry in the corner is a reminder that you have loved ones around you and each item washed, dried and put away is a reminder of this blessing πŸ’–  I'm a huge fan of counting my blessings, it's so easy to take the good things in our lives for granted.  Thank you for being here, for keeping me company and for being one of my blessings honeys πŸ’•

I hope you're having a fabulous week dear ones, till next time, smile lots and hug even more. Huggles always xx

Huggles always, Rosie xx

    1. Leah, I'm so sorry I missed this comment:/ Thank you so much for visiting x Something odd has been happening just lately, twice this week actually! I always fold everything and stack it on the counter in the kitchen till I head upstairs but just lately Hubby will scoop it up and take it upstairs! He then puts his things away and leaves mine on the dressing table for me. Bless him! Now if I can just get him to put my stuff away as well :) Sending heaps of huggles honey xxx

    1. LOL LOL :) Maria, you made my day!! I've said for years that if someone ever manages to create a scent anywhere near as indescribably wonderful as the smell of fresh linens air dried in the sunshine.... well that guy can retire because it will outsell Chanel :)

I'm loving your latest post with the peach & pistachio sundaes recipe! They look beyond fabulous and I can't wait to try them. I haven't ever had pistachio ice cream before and I adore the sound of peaches roasted in honey, Yum! Thank you for visiting Maria, I hope you're having the most fabulous weekend, raining here but I think I might be starting to get rid of this awful chest infection I've been battling for a couple of weeks, hopefully, so it's all good :) Sending heaps of hugs xx
